Iridium’s First Character Guide (DK)

Recommended Posts

I'm Iridium and I'm a Dragon Knight player (among other things) from the Filthy Casuals guild. My old First Character Guide became outdated when Sky Emperor got mega nerfed. I’m going to reuse a lot of the screenshots from the first guide since the NPCs haven’t moved. This doesn’t cover all the server nuances, but it should guide you on leveling and getting money/resources using minimum gear. All the leveling done in this guide was done during an exp event due to extended exp events on the server.

Why Dragon Knight (DK)?

  • High base HP with increased healing from healing items
  • Low ACD requirement for skills
  • Naturally high damage with strong Rune self-buffs
  • No cast time on skills

    • Copy and paste the command /navi moc_para01 110/79
    • vSl6epBqWi58ECRjnmhN6Ez3_VeG2OIAlqIkLtevZ_XwVlL1dz7Jh8l88YpEy50HGF4VB8qf10Y6so_wabs6ggtke6FabZwyntUYMQHLC-bscRkBnFAHjRhBffIw4AmRHorprnK8aLJmzITd-RUKDg

    • Kill eggs with auto attacks, sell all your drops except jalopies (100 can be exchanged for 5 character bound EXP manuals), Monster Hunter Coin (used to exchange for consumables that are normally in the kRO cash shop). As a rule, always keep your cards and costumes.
    • Level your STR, VIT, AGI, and DEX with an emphasis on STR
    • Level Magnum Break to at least level 3 which will let you AoE the eggs
  • Make sure you open the Level Up Rewards box. Keep the THIKK Battle Manual and the potions. You can save everything else for later.
  • Go to @go office, and then job change to Knight
  • 3l1W6tERAOZmJsZQb6mofHR-jjYqcwtd0wPSmuzBPbcpmSZzFkv5uO81rMLjUHY9Yu4ZYZfUlSkqPWILgXxsZ27pEfDaJA4cMo4LN7kJki3koAUBPAdqZwJmmcW0cQfDCD4P6OtYCWgMBJbKbSd5__c

Knight

  • @go eden and go back to buy Paradise Knight lance and two handed sword
    • Go to Orc Dungeon
    • Mob and kill with Magnum Break until level 80
    • Get about 70 STR, 30 AGI, 60 VIT, 50 DEX
    • Level up Cavalry Mastery, Pierce, Brandish Spear
    • Talk to the Kafra and select Universal Rental to get a mount
    • Use the @sc 1 command to turn on smart cast.
  • Go to Magma 2.
    • Mob and kill with Brandish Spear
    • Use Pierce if you run into a Furious Nightmare
    • Save all the SP items you pick up from this point forward
  • Go to @go office, use your skill points on anything and dismount. Then Rebirth to High Novice.

High Novice and High Swordsman

  • Level 20 DEX and kill an Ant Egg at Ant Hell
  • Change to High Swordsman, rinse and repeat until job level 50
  • stWFDIo98JYjlL-q_Lrw6SG_Wd1RwdIb-MIc9_v0hp7hrRqonimFB092ONhICZj7hV5nnDFbG09o0McypnvMFG9gGWhyJcK5aKlgGXkEcfUUMXyJyZVW8Pd8uQ9r4jvTL500FBBJBhjO4VwAOR_R7DA

Lord Knight

  • Go to Orc Dungeon as before until base level 75-80
    • Give yourself the same stats and skills as above in the Knight section but use a two handed sword and Bowling Bash
    • Go to Magma 2 and level until 90/70
  • Job change to Rune Knight
  • wISoom9Vrdhal2aBmO6xxhK7prf_14Iv0sqaRYjtbW7yVRkrMktwEyA9ZYK5dDicic15jkLWipxRcz2eNKdgw4_d5Q0k4Yd6kO3RuqzvNKPD8FyEYG7oh7wuVjghCh_Xs9OENyGw98w82D70x9BeuXQ

Rune Knight

  • Go to eden, grab advanced physical armor, Rune Knight advanced paradise shadow weapon, and Paradise Rune Knight Two-handed Sword.
    • Then return to magma 2 to continue killing until level 121.
    • Level Wind Cutter and Dragon Training
    • Put your STR to 120 and the rest into VIT
    • Talk to the Kafra and select Universal Rental to get a mount
  • Go to @go eden, /navi moc_para01 36/18.
  • Then warp to Dungeon -> Scaraba Hole -> Scaraba Hole 2.
    • Use fire element, a 50% Battle Manual from the quest, and kill 150 Antler and Rake Scaraba. Try not to die because you will lose your fire endow.
    • From level 121 to mid 130s, you might need to combo Magnum Break + Wind Cutter to one shot. Once you are high 130s you can one shot without issue.
    • Make sure you use Two Hand Quicken and Parry.
    • Keep your Elder Branches, Ancient Rough Runestone, cards, and costumes. The equipment doesn’t sell for much here so I like to turn @autoloot 1 and turn on @aloottype +0, 2, 3, 6, 10
    • Avoid the MvP
    • When you are done killing 150 Antler and Rake Scaraba you can collect the EXP by talking to the same NPC, going under collect bounty rewards -> collect all bounties. The quests can be repeated as many times as you want. Do this two more times. If you are fast you can do this before your Battle Manual expires, but if not it’s no big deal. During my testing I ended at lvl 162 and with 1.2m zeny.
  • At this point, you can solo the Sarah’s Memories instance, one of the important zeny farming instances in the server.
    • Talk to the Instance Manager in town. Under Instances, select Sarah’s Memories.
    • Open the instance in normal mode and enter the instance. You can google a guide if you get lost.
    • Loot all the food items.
    • You will take a beating, so take your free Novice Potions and Light Yellow Potions. Also buy some healing items. Cheap is good at this point. I prefer Fresh Fish from the Chef Assistant in Comodo or Meat from various NPC dealers.
    • If you die, that’s okay, you can sell your looted food and buy more healing items, then re-enter.
    • After killing Doyen Irene and getting your first instance coin, you can leave. This instance will get you about 5.4m (more if you make a vending merchant). This instance will help fund your consumables and get you started on buying gear. It is extremely fast, taking about 5 minutes.
      • 8eN8NDPyvWhIgLG6Gwr_nkR0ZC7iSVviisPaOTEKZnkksbH5nLuChTmKaKi8xLVX7pQ9J6YVcWPVlG8pJtnCUI69q3gJ6rMxJYY43h4PFJWSNAfLbN2C2PFRiljmdTYsUNqug4MeaizmvoONFx3qfWc
    • You can and should run this instance once a day until you have a comfortable amount of zeny. When this instance is on cooldown, you can also farm money at Iaras, Mavkas, Geffenia.
  • Buy some quality of life items:
    • 2 Gym Passes (market price at time of writing, 430k ea)
    • Habgs66luxOBSzfw06tU6PC1me1nFnpAtPwL2inpNv6_xvEMEDRwwPl3Egp6tymUJyu_WJSEztmHsqMhD5tB-ge9DBXZnduu40vvXaUcP9Qs7j4hzON2twkTU4aukgP-K5WHTalsOjRtF5vXd3fM5HU
    • Talk to Ripped Cabus north of spawn in Payon to upgrade your carrying capacity
    • 150 Token of Honor (market price at time of writing, 3k ea)
    • ZTR1Z3SR1eOKv4DLI95d24LNkhiS8EhjnAnMEV4xizHK4tEvzBcw5h81E3GS40qv5B6XU6WPhVpn93WL2MIAZRFokXPcN84oJSOdlXtLeoebXWrGQ-Sglrj3qGy1ICBeXQ5b9-Jha2y275hFgNEczdQ
    • Talk to the 16.1 NPC to the left of @go 46 and buy the City Center Map. You can swap to this in the middle of instances to give yourself a speed boost with agi up.
    • Infinite Berserk Potion (market price at time of writing, 50k ea)
  • You can also do the Horror Toy Factory Instance, which is the other staple zeny farming instance on the server. This guide will not include a full HTF guide as there are HTF guides elsewhere.
    • You can open in normal difficulty. Bring plenty of SP items and at least 500 Fresh Fish or other HP items. Make sure you have at least 100 Vit. These were my stats.
      • Vl2YMDwgikw4Y_4l0KBHVm_Ghru3nZUwWtqZZnbXQTlC9PxY-wt2eC4NBtGJuJ_pj6ulAtoDz41wpGwo2jiLsEyBFuexf1pZG-e03TwcH7G2FC3jdG0G1O9wl5MDmzkZVeKgL9dbglri01KK79XOk9A
    • Kill the Creepy Demons. 16 in the second room, 42 in the third room. This will get you Gold and Platinum Bullions (58 total ea). I recommend avoiding combat in the third room and outrun the mobs, sniping down the Creepy Demons with Charge Attack. You will still need to fight if there are too many mobs.
    • You do not need to kill the MVP or beat the instance to get all the zeny.
    • This instance will get you about 11.6m without a merchant. However, you will need Gold to make your Lux Anima runes later so until you have enough runes under your belt, this instance will only net you about 5.8m.
    • When you start doing these two instances every day, you should also make a merchant for selling items.
  • Next, time to make runes. A separate section below will go into rune making in detail.
    • The important runes to make are Asir, Terisus, and Lux Anima
    • It’s okay to use the Quality and Rare Rough Runestones for Asir and Terisus since their materials are cheap but it’s better to farm for Mystic Rough Runestones for Lux Anima
    • Level Rune Mastery to 10
    • Farm 78 light granules from Gold Acidus’ in @warp abyss_03
    • Farm 98 elder branches from Pinguiculas in @warp spl_fild02
    • Farm 20 claw of desert wolf from Desert Wolves, @warp ra_fild01
    • Farm 20 blue hair from Kobolds in @warp ra_fild05
    • Farm 20 ogre tooth from High Orcs in @warp alde_dun02
    • Farm 98 Mystic Rough Runestones from Tamruans in @warp ayo_dun02
    • Reset your stats to 130 LUK and DEX at the Reset Girl in the top left @go office
    • Take your 58 Gold from one HTF rune
    • Make 20 Asir, 20 Terisus, and 19 Lux Anima Runes
  • From here you can powerlevel.
    • Go to @go 47, /navi fortessa 250/206 with all the monster hunter coins you have. I had 14 at this time.
    • Buy 6 Shining Defense Scrolls (SDS) and 2 untradable Almighty.
    • Replenish your preferred healing items, or if you have the zeny start buying White Syrups from the Special Tool Dealer (recommended).
    • Take your THIKK Battle Manual from Level Up Reward Box, pop an SDS + an Almighty, use your 3 runes from above, and head to @warp sp_rudus3. Use charge attack on the range mobs if you find that they are hitlocking you. Always keep 2h quicken and parry up.
    • Level until 195, then go to Magma 3. Make sure you fly wing if you see the MvP dog.
    • At 200, change jobs.
    • Vs59UbY7cQyAS8BSoOvIQSInkWqYsIlFS6zfce9tJhq1mkPCGbTZ4pvgy-aZVJA3mU3XZlsl8TpX2q56cK19dGWoo8h-gQWIE8pnY3wHw2XpkjX95kGGnxX_IHyuAfHmuB62hA6uA6FMIgENYqCT9QY

Dragon Knight

  • Return to Magma 3 until jlvl 16. Max out Hack and Slash
  • Go to Eden and sign up with Secretary Lime. Sign up in the lvl 230 quests at /navi moc_para01 52/29.
  • ZSVeHmG4HVKhVjJdhLl2aEVcjfDYR1NnWtImsWW0mp9vz2Js99Kx-vQ_9sTS7xxdO-lZ_rdM5dqJnoftRrqPWyabTS4hvz9qJyhYl-4ksYvkM1OH_V8TgzH2VvOkg2tAi9DpZcSTwI4FPNH6KD21hg
  • Go to Nif 1 under Lv 250 Expansion at the warper npc.
    • Start leveling. Level POW to 100, rest in CRT. Once the quest is finished, turn it in at the same NPC for quick exp.
    • Level up Two Hand Defending and Storm Slash
    • Keep all your etel dust, and sell all the equipment for zeny.
    • At the end of your THIKK battle manual, you should be in the 230s. Take your time to sell your gear and clean up your inventory. Use one of the 30 minute Manuals from the Prontera quest and continue leveling.
  • At 240 go to Eden and head right towards the staircase
    • Accept the 300 hunt from the Unknown Basement NPC
    • dj3UJy_-ATauoLbHv2ARA4tEkwxgitm0WHU_hWJVtfTzO8_gk1fG3PYtmsfXoFWYSm5oKafDQPTa7QB-64eQO-cxNV2uYu0FAfz7Ea7MeaBEPotA9T-j9ImgeC3sqaOYexZzCwcUtIqjJE2B_3BAJnE
    • Restock your SDS, White Syrup, and Fly wings
    • go to unknown basement under lv 250 Expansion at the warper npc
    • You can use charge attack on the Jennifers as their range attacks can hitlock you
    • Keep the etel dust but the equips here don’t sell for much
  • The leveling here slows down dramatically due to gear limitation, so I do not recommend finishing up to 250.
  • -qTjCat5kgir5D_1dZHZkxJWP8mXATqUJa7HBFZxR71EmnVHy-OP2szeVlmJlnrA15MhR85uskBezcV4ptRYOimLgJ_nWn9xn30B7aZSgIhcFMeGCr4x7oUqM47arplnzsO13UIEFv5dQGYwCtf6vwc

Other Leveling Tips:

  • Always join a booster leveling party if they’re within your level. They are guaranteed to be more geared than you and will increase the speed a lot. Normally they occur in Nif1 from 200-230 and more rarely occur in Rudus3. Similarly, if you see an etel dust farming party in Unknown Basement, you should also join and ask them to turn on EXP share.
  • Don’t be afraid to use consumables.
  • DK is a very straightforward class. No fancy skills or mechanics to learn.

Playstyle

  • You can alternate SS and HnK to maximize DPS if you need the AoE since it will fill in the gaps while the other skills are on cooldown.
  • If you want single target damage and have enough ACD and aspd, then you will do more damage with SS if you’re using runes.
  • Magnum break will increase your damage for 10 seconds. Use this to your advantage before fighting MvPs.
  • Always have 2hand quicken and parry up. Concentration gives a tiny damage boost and also gives you the endure effect.
  • You have a massive HP pool and get bonus healing from potions. Potions are your friends.

Transitioning from Starting Gear to Early Game

Spoiler

  • Up until this point, this guide avoided two huge parts of Ragnarok progression: refining and cards
  • Thankfully you don’t need to be fully runed up to farm zeny and cards, so you can sell your HTF Golds as needed.
  • There will be a separate section detailing refining
  • It is recommended to reset your stats to accommodate for using a Galensis Card (see screenshot below)
  • Top Hg: Thanos’ Warrior Helmet or Thanos Fighter Helmet +9
    • Bought from venders using @ws or by buying on the #trade channel (difficult to clear the instance where they drop at the current power level)
    • High value to cost ratio because the item is cheap in the market. Can be transformed into the LT version later.
    • Card: Purple Ferus, can be bought or farmed
  • Mid Hg: Sealed Chain
    • Map drop (drops from all mobs in a certain map) at nif_dun02
    • Medium value to cost ratio, can be skipped if it is not cheap by venders
  • Lower Hg: Bondage Necklace
    • Map drop at nif_dun02
    • Medium value to cost ratio, can be skipped if it is not cheap by venders
  • Armor: Advanced Paradise Suit
  • Weapon: Solid Claymore +9
    • Obtained by farming a Fortified Claymore from Mutant Vanilaqu at Amitera 1 and buying 10 Clock Gear and 125 Lead from vendors (difficult to farm these items from Unk Basement at the current power level and they are plentiful in the market). Bring to the Clock Tower NPC on the second floor of Eden. And exchange for a Solid Claymore
    • LnAfJPiYg7EG6Gm9UkFz8nrgs7UbKsBYmHYJpnDhunIbmDSK1VtzOvHdz0Gk4hl7RtDyKlHRoiTW2cNJU8fnf0mHP_-HQfkAiR_0FqtBZxXy8IHOZZaV_yENh9kOOLVhY95rjTvJahvKm-1CAwCe9b0
    • High value to cost ratio, because it scales well. Recommended to avoid grading and enchanting for now.
    • Cards: 2x Rekenber Guard, can be bought (recommended) or farmed (from Edda Biolabs instance)
  •  Garment: Temporal AGI Manteau +8
    • Bought for 7 instance coins from the Instance Points NPC to the slight right of @go 46
    • High value to cost ratio because the item is cheap
    • Cards: Galensis, can be bought or farmed
  • Shoes: Advanced Paradise Boots
  • Accessories: Any Ring and Necklace “of Brilliant Light” that gives 10% attack (Ruby Necklace/Ring of Brilliant Light, Zircon Necklace/Ring of Brilliant Light, Aquamarine Necklace/Ring of Brilliant Light)
    • These drop from the Thanatos Tower instance and are almost treated like trash gear from players running the instance. There are sets that give 10% atk ea, 7% atk and 7% matk ea (okay if you can’t get the 10% atk ones) and ones that give 10% matk ea (avoid). They combo with different armors but that doesn’t matter. They share the same enchant pool but that can be worried about later.
    • The “of Sin” gear works as well. The difference between these and the “of Brilliant Light” is that they combo with different armor, give 0.1 more FCT reduction for the set bonus, and increase damage on angel and dragon instead of angel and demon (dragon is less common than demon).
    • Recommend buying on the #trade channel since many players don’t bother putting these on venders
    • High value to cost ratio because the item is cheap
    • Card: 2x Void Mimic can be bought or farmed
  • Costumes: Critical Stone Upper/Middle/Lower/Garment
    • Bought from venders using @ws or by buying on the #trade channel
    • Can be used on any costumes
    • High value to cost ratio because the item is cheap
  • Shadows: Rune Knight Advanced Paradise Shadow Weapon, Advanced Paradise Shadow Armors
  • fbo2Jcrk4UJ5lUXneB2mwn5qiuWWdaLqxINyG_jPUI4efnH-Tx8G-cVX9jKFXydbZmFk0e4N-f0yxbIC-wjgHuKjKWoNNoj42zSIIPMq39vOWHUkKZHWe3Igboh1jMHpwexIZzkiOwzYIAMjLuMvqbs

What to do next?
There are many options of what you can do next. You’re at a baseline amount of gear to explore what the server has to offer for you. You can’t do anything without zeny so I recommend zeny farming instances be incorporated into your daily activity.
In the short term:

  • Go back to Unknown Basement and level to 250
  • Do instances for instance coins
  • Start farming and working towards Mid Game
  • Start farming and working towards other classes
  • Make multiple characters to farm Sarah’s Memory and HTF
  • Starting or joining Hell mode parties
  • Make a 1x base level / 100x job level character for the 50% drop bonus
  • Join a guild

In the long term:

  • Join end game parties (new instances, Purgatory parties, Guardian Angel parties, Fortessa Dungeon parties)
  • Do the MvP ladder
  • Make seasonal boosters for the account bound mvp cards
  • Get costumes and AFK in town

Instances/Farming:

Spoiler

  • Suggested difficulty based on whether I felt that you could kill the mobs in the content and tank within reason without getting 1 shot with the gear I have listed. Your mileage may vary. Based on doing without runes for the sake of saving money.
  • General Tip
    • Be generous with your White Syrups or Ygg Seeds (farmed from Edda Biolabs and Werner Labs).
    • Use Shining Def Scrolls if you can afford it.
    • After doing 2 instances a day, talk to the Daily Quest npc in @go exchange for Kachua’s Secret Keys which have lots of valuable goodies.
  • Sarah’s Memories
    • Recommended Difficulty: normal
    • Use: zeny farming
  • Horror Toy Factory
    • Recommended Difficulty: normal
    • Use: zeny farming
    • Notes: you do not need to kill the NPC to get full zeny. 16 Creepy Demons in the second room, 42 in the 3rd room.
  • Twilight Garden
    • Recommended Difficulty: hell
    • Use: instance coins (1), Varmeals
    • Notes: one of the quickest instances if you only want your Kachua
  • Buwaya Cave
    • Recommended Difficulty: nightmare
    • Use: instance coins (3)
    • Notes: one of the quickest instances if you only want your Kachua. Hopefully you can get to him before he casts reflect. If you get trapped into the chest, it’s easier just to give up since the rewards are only worth it if you quickly kill him.
  • Wolchev
    • Recommended Difficulty: nightmare
    • Use: instance coins (12)
    • Notes: Ideally the boss will be burst down before they summon slaves which can overwhelm you. If you encounter a ghost boss, then you will have to quickly endow.
  • Sky Fort
    • Recommended Difficulty: nightmare
    • Use:  instance coins (18)
    • Notes: None of the mobs matter, but you can kill them when they start to hitlock you. You can use Tension between maps if you really want to save money on potions. Remember that Concentration gives you the Endure effect.
  • Werner Lab:
    • Recommended Difficulty: hell
    • Use: instance coins (10), ygg seeds
    • Notes: make sure to pick Cutie since YSF can one shot you and also casts Max Pain. The mobs drop Yggdrasil Seeds at a very high rate and you can farm them here.
  • Ghost Palace
    • Recommended Difficulty: hell
    • Use: Gray Pieces (100-120)
    • Notes: make sure you clear all the mobs in room 3 rather than move to the next map. After you get your instance coin you can choose to leave since the amount of Gray Pieces you get after are very low compared to how long it takes.
    • Other Farming Spots:
  • lasa_dun03
    • Use: Yggdrasil Berries, Old Purple Boxes (can be exchanged for Eden Merit Badges at mov_para01 13,22 which can then be exchanged for Token Of Siegfrieds for self-resurrection at the same NPC)
  • Bra_dun02, mosk_dun03, any Geffenia,
    • Use: zeny farming from Iaras, Mavkas, and all mobs on the maps, respectively.
    • You can also farm taming items for Incubus pet (sp leeching) and Succubus pet (hp leeching) which drop from their respective mobs in Geffenia. Higher chance to tame if the mob hp is low.
  • Teg_dun02:
    • One of the best zeny maps in the server if you are optimally geared
    • warning, PvP map
    • @nolootid +1231, 1564, 1813, 1304, 1239, 2372, 1963, 1305, 2318, 1913, 2373

Refining Gear

Spoiler
  • This guide on the wiki goes into far more detail than I will here: https://wiki.shining-moon.com/index.php/Refinement_System
  • Fishy’s Grading Guide: https://www.shining-moon.com/ipb/index.php?/topic/12339-a-guide-to-grading-equipment/&tab=comments#comment-14976
  • +7 and +8 refining tickets are plentiful from Lucky 3 but they do not work on lvl 2 armors and lvl 5 weapons. Usually you use +7 tickets with HD ores and +8 tickets with Old ore and Blacksmith Blessings if you are trying to hit +10.
  • For level 1 armor and level 4 weapons, I recommend using +7 scrolls and HD elu/ori to go up to +10 since these aren’t in high demand for new level 2 armors and level 5 weapons, whereas Blacksmith blessings remain in high demand. I also recommend using HD carn/bradium for the same reason.
  • Level 4 weapons upgrade from +10 to +11 for free (100%), but armors do not.
  • Level 2 armors and level 5 weapon do NOT break under +10 but REQUIRE BSB to refine above +10. I recommend using normal ore to +5, then using HD ore from +5 to +10, and then using enriched ore to whatever you’re going for over 1o (with BSB of course)
  • I personally prefer to grade from ungraded to D and from D to C at +10 instead of +11 since it means I don’t need BSB.
  • For shadow gear, I use Shadow Refine Hammers until the item is +7 and then I refine using Old ore and BSB.

  • The iRO wiki has a lot of information on the formula for rune creation. https://irowiki.org/wiki/Rune_Mastery
  • For damage, I’m always using Lux Anima, Asir, and Turisus
  • For defense, I sometimes use Isia and Hagalas but I find that Shining Defense Scrolls and Life Potions are more important
  • There’s a crafting NPC in @go 47 that can help mass create Runes, but at the time of writing he’s bugged so I recommend crafting them manually.
    • He's been fixed.
  • I’m not sure who made this graphic, but I got this from Raphat in my guild a long time ago and the locations are still good.

Mechanics to Learn:

Spoiler

  • ASPD
    • ASPD is how fast you attack, but it’s more useful to think about as “sprite speed” i.e. it’s how fast you can perform actions in the game including auto attacks, casting spells, anything that changes your sprite animation.
    • There's a bunch of voodoo math that you can see there and not a lot of it is very helpful https://irowiki.org/wiki/ASPD
    • But the general formula for attacks per second is: Delay after atk = (200 - aspd) / 50
    • At max aspd (193), this number is 0.14 aka about 7 attacks per second
    • This is why it’s important to have enough ASPD to match the needs of your build
  • ACD
    • After cast delay aka global cooldown. This affects how soon you can use any other skill. Because this has a hard limit (7 times per second aka max ASPD), the amount of ACD reduction you need depends on the ACD of the skill. For shorthand, people generally just refer to both ACD and ACD reduction as “ACD”. For reference,
    • 2 second ACD-> 92% ACD reduction,
    • 1 second ACD-> 86% ACD reduction,
    • 0.5 second ACD-> 72% ACD reduction
    • This is complicated if the skill also has a cooldown. For example, Storm Slash has 0.5 acd and 0.35 CD. This means that you just need enough ACD to match the CD of the skill.
    • ACD * x = CD, ACD reduction = 1 - x
    • In the case of storm slash, x = 0.7 and the amount of ACD reduction you need is 30%
  • CD
    • Cooldown is the amount of time before you can use the specific skill again. It does not affect other skills so you can cast other skills while one skill is on cooldown. Many skills have both CD and ACD.
    • CD is not reduced by the ACD reduction stat but some gear reduce skill cooldowns.
    • Critical Hit Shield
    • Crit shield is a stat that monsters have that reduce the amount of effective crit you have against them. Enemies get 1 point of crit shield per 5 points of LUK. E.g. a mob with 180 LUK will have 36 crit shield, and you will need 136 to land 100% critical hits on them. For general content, 120-140 crit is a good number. For custom content, you need 170+ crit.
  • FCT
    • Fixed cast time is a property of a skill that is not reduced by stats. It is reduced by FCT reducing gear. Thankfully the skills we are using in this guide do not have any FCT.
  • VCT
    • Variable cast time is a property of a skill that is reduced by either stats or gear.
    • For stats, the value is for instant cast is DEX × 2 + INT = 530, though in many circumstances getting close to instant cast is good enough. Thankfully the skills we are using in this guide do not have any VCT.
    • For gear, VCT% gear is additive up to 100%
    • However, VCT from stats and from gear are multiplicative, which means they are not synergistic with one another. For example, having 98% VCT from stats and 50% VCT from gear means you have 99% total effective VCT.

Transitioning from Early Game to Mid Game

Spoiler

  • I recommend checking the market price of any item on @ws before you start farming them.
  • Top Hg: Thanos’ Warrior Helmet-LT or Thanos Fighter Helmet-LT +12
    • Thanos Helms can be transformed to their LT versions using the Thanos Helm Reform Cube item (ID 100695) which drops from Tomb of Remorse instance but should also be pretty cheap. Uses 300 Gray Pieces. The refine of the item is retained, so it is recommended to refine your helm to +11 if you plan on grading in the future (better stats but the item resets to 0 refines after every grade) or +12 if you choose not to grade.
    • Card: Purple Ferus
  • Mid Hg: Victorious Wing Ear
    • Map drop (drops from all mobs in a certain map) at amicitia2. This item is a great way to get ACD into your build and you need 30% ACD to optimally spam Storm Slash, since it has a cooldown of 0.35 and an after cast delay of 0.50.
    • Card: Purple Ferus
  • Lower Hg: Blue Ninja Mask
    • Map drop at nif_dun02
  • Armor: Nebula Armor of Power +11
    • This armor is crafted using materials from the Constellation Tower instance, which is frequently run as a party. There are many layers of scaling on this armor: it gets increasingly powerful with grading, as well as increasingly powerful with the correct enchant. As a base item, it’s accessible enough that it doesn’t make sense to invest into other armors, and it will get better as you continue to improve it. At +11 you can use the Angry Nine Tail card, enchant it, as well as start grading it when you’re ready.
    • Card: Angry Nine Tail OR Mistress of Shelter (Happiness Giver Combo)
  • Weapon: Solid Claymore +10
    • There’s not really a huge difference between +10 and +11, since a lot of the weapon bonuses come at +12. However, you can start enchanting the weapon. I recommend Storm Slash Tuning Device as well as ATK 10% OR ACD if you don’t have enough ACD. At +10 you can start grading when you’re ready.
    • Cards:  2x Contaminated Wanderer or 2x Rekenber Guard if you’re fighting small mobs
  • Garment: Pirate Captain’s Coat (id 480174) +11
    • Drops from Water Garden Normal and Hard on higher instance difficulties. Great garment for crit builds. Decent grading bonuses but the refine bonuses are already amazing.
    • Cards: Galensis or Happiness Giver Combo
  • Shoes: Advanced Paradise Boots
    • These boots are just too good. There aren’t that many shoe cards that will change your life and the late game shoes at the time of writing are either really hard to come by (Boots of Unknown Power) or need a lot of grading and enchanting (Ice or Flame boots from Varmundt)
    • These can be enchanted for an additional 10% attack or 10% crit per side and/or with a physical racial enchant for up to 35% more damage on Angel and Demon (Brilliant Light) or Angel and Dragon (Sin) at the Thanatos Tower NPCs to the top right of @go 46. You can technically have both but it’s compound RNG and it’s better to focus on one or the other. Having some general stats is more broadly useful but having increased damage on Demons is really helpful for certain instances. Your choice.
    • Card: 2x Void Mimic
  • Costumes: Critical Stone Upper/Middle/Lower/Garment
    • Upper: Assassin Cross Stone II(Upper)
    • Mid: Rune Knight Stone
    • Low: Guillotine Cross (Lower)
    • Garment: Guillotine Cross Stone II(Garment)
    • Garment Dual: Critical Stone (Dual)
    • Can be farmed from class stone boxes in Bio5 (aka Nightmare Biolabs) except the Dual stone
  • Shadows:
    • Armor: Critical Hit Shadow Armor +7 (drops from mobs)
    • Weapon: Infinity Shadow Weapon +10 (drops from mobs)
    • Shield: Mega Blitz Shadow Shield +10 (from Random Shadow Box, Shadow Coupon)
    • Shoe: All Race Shadow Shoes +9 (drops from mobs)
    • Earring: Full Penetration Shadow Earring +10
    • Pendant: Full Penetration Shadow Pendant +10
    • These are randomly dropped from the Full Penetration Shadow mix item from the Box Trader at @go 49. You can buy Purgatory coins. You can farm orcsdun01 for penetration shadows to churn refines. It might be cheaper just to buy them off @ws though.
    • vCuGj9iAYkA2e6iCkeuAFHVDjz1n5G0JFryKGo6hitgQ8EWLLHDqy1i86ZeO8amXKrHH96rC0__9FmVpMDKK9G8B77DEor970nIp1JLddANGTOaLlYAh3vDfipLluUWtARTeoV3M0_xmO3yPozwor9o
  • Pet:
    • Incubus for the SP drain. Taming item drops from Incubus mobs in geffenia. Higher tame chance with low mob HP.
  • Other:
    • Card Removing Matrix: from Lucky 3, lets you remove cards infinitely
    • Kafra Cards: 100 of them gives you the @storage skill for your entire account, which lets you open your Kafra anywhere.
    • 1-TWUBUYgPZrgaQbHbFGEXlCdA5j3O8pa5oj4vUjik_v6isDHAxkVpBfDIoPZnjikeaZQHDk7w7VzOFdWZeoIbfzXTRdyupzt0vWUokqwvXorWQil6apSs5U3Uq_2YUiecPig_c5wiGpyr-R-5YsdyY
    • The rest of your Gym Passes
    • Infinite Flywing: not super important since flywings are cheap and you have massive weight limits, but a nice quality of life item.

Transitioning from Mid Game to Late Game

Spoiler

  • Out of the scope of this guide, especially since Late Game and End Game gear is constantly changing
  • Refer to the recommendations prior
    • Join end game parties (new instances, Purgatory parties, Guardian Angel parties, Fortessa Dungeon parties). I recommend learning and gearing a support class to join in on end game parties (Elemental Master, Spirit Handler, Soul Ascetic, Cardial, Imperial Guard, AMB Gunslinger)
    • Do the MvP ladder
    • Make seasonal boosters
    • Get costumes and AFK in town

Gears For Other Builds:

These gear weren't elaborated on in the main guide because they weren't pertinent, but may be useful if you are using this guide as a framework for other builds or classes.

Grace Gear

Spoiler

I didn't include anything about Grace Gear in the guide because Rune Knights don't really benefit from them over Advanced Paradise Gear. You will benefit from Grace Gear if the skill you are using to level gets skill% bonuses from any of the gear. You can check the full list here: https://wiki.shining-moon.com/index.php/Grace_Equipment_Shop. Grace Gear also benefits from having card slots and free refines, if you happen to need it for cards. You can start using them at lvl 150.

You can take a look at my old guide for reference for how to approach a build that uses Grace Gear:

Getting Grace Gear:

  • Go to Special Border Area OS (aka sp_os) under illusion fields.
  • Farm 80 unknown parts and 60 Cor Core which are dropped from every mob.
  • @go 46 and go /navi fortessa 75/130. Buy
    •         Grace [Armor]
    •         Grace Attack Boots
    •         Grace Attack Manteau
    •         Grace Attack Ring
    •         3 Grace Refine Tickets, to be used immediately on everything except the Ring.

Thanos-AD Weapons

Spoiler

The reason that Thanos-AD weapons get recommended is because they are the easiest way to get a refined level 5 weapon. You get them by making a Thanatos Weapon from the Ghost Palace instance, refine it as a level 4 weapon, and then turn it into a Thanos-AD weapon using the Thanos Weapon Reform Cube (ID 100591, drops from Ghost Palace at higher difficulties but is cheap on the market). You need Gray Shards as well. Your refines (and enchants) from your Thanatos Weapon will be kept for your Thanos-AD weapon. Although they boost skills, these skills are RARELY used once you hit 4th jobs, with the exception of Sharp Shooting for Windhawks. They are useful for leveling 1x/booster chars, but in this context, they are ONLY used for the raw damage and p.atk that they provide.

I didn't include anything about Thanos-AD Weapons in the guide because Rune Knights classes that benefit most from them are classes where the Clock weapons don't boost useful skills. You can check the full list here: https://www.divine-pride.net/forum/index.php?/topic/4014-kro-in-game-items/page/2/#comment-10190 to see if the skill you want to use is being boosted.

Great guide, I was looking for try and some different classes I never played before and this was a great reading to start. It's good to have those comprehensive guides with details for the early and mid game, since you can sort of find more easily discussions about the current end game on other places.

In your opinion, which would be the "optimal" order to grade the mid game equipment?

This is just based off my gut and not off any data or anything but probably Nebula to B, weapon to B or C, then either Nebula to A or everything else to C. Really, the Nebula armor has the best grading bonuses by far but grading to A takes quite a bit of etel farming and BSBs, while you don't need any BSBs to grade to C.
