Magic Oboro Guide

Recommended Posts

Welcome to my 2nd Guide: "Magic Oboro"

This is something that exists because I heard that some players are running in Pit with Oboro.
When 17.2 released i thought: „Let's give it a shot!“.
Now I’m stuck with a class that’s very funny to play, and not bad at all.

To give a simple feeling on how good it is, I haven’t finished gearing the class and im already at 7m DPS on Dummy’s.

Positives:

Spoiler

High Survivalbility - Oboro has 3 skills that make you dodge attacks or make your enemies attack something different. 2 of those are buffs, while one is active.
When all buffs are fresh, you're able to dodge 8 times.

Fast Clear Speed - You might think, why you should play this, when other magic classes just nuke everything into oblivion with one spell.
Well, you're right with that, but can those classes do that the whole time? Oboro can kill single mobs so fast, that they can kill up to 7 Monsters in one second.

Cheap Recovery - Oboro and Kagerou both can heal themselfes up to 100% HP in 10 seconds, and even recover 50% of their SP at the same time.
If you manage your playstyle well, you never have to use and potions at all.

No need for PKS - Oboro is the only Magic class that doesn't need a PKS to be good. They dual wield daggers instead.

Who needs ACD - Oboro, like Soul Reaper, doesn't need ACD for DPS, along with no need for Fixed Cast Reduction, this opens up a huge damage spectrum.

Negatives:

Spoiler

Element Locked - Oboro has the same problem as nearly every Magic Class but worse. They only have 3 Elements to choose, which are fire, water and wind.
Out of these, water is the best choice, then fire and then wind.

Dual Wield is hard - Like I stated above, Oboro doesn't need a PKS but rather dual wields. This also means, that they will have a bad time reaching 193 ASPD.
And they need to get 2 Weapons up to +14. They also don't have the defensive options shields normally have (I miss Alice Card).

Magic, your friend and worst Nightmare - Oboro uses Magic and Dodges attacks. This sounds insanely strong which it is. Until you go up against other Magic.
Oboro only has one skill, that works a bit against magic, and that only splits the damage you take.

Don't die - When you die, your DPS drops insanely. When you die, you lose 16th Night, which reduces 100% of your Fixed cast time, and it has a Cooldown.

Breaking Fingers - This Class feels like playing Knuckle Arrow Sura, which i personally love, but I guess using a skill 7 times per second isn't something everyone loves.

Ping - your Ping to the server heavily makes your DPS. For comparison, I'm playing with a Ping of 90, and can't hit max DPS all the time.

Important to know:

Spoiler

Ammunition Style Combat - Oboro uses specific items for some skills. They don't burn very fast through items and the items aren't expensive, but this needs to be known.

Things you will need in this order:

100% VCT - Yes, Oboros rely on VCT, which isnt so hard to reach tho.

193 ASPD - This could be harder to reach, but not impossible.

100% Boss MDef Pierce - not Important, but also not bad
UPDATE Race MDef Pierce Stacks Additively to Boss MDef Pierce and Normal MDef Pierce, so take 60% from Shadow Combo into Account

StatsnSkills:

Fire Skills (Less Damage than Ice, better AoE)

image.png.f479c4eff3adcf83f6eedcd2fd1937b9.png Watery Evasion - Uses Ice Stones, makes a water field, in this field, you deal more damage with freezing spear, enemies inside will move slower.
(This Skill is kinda bugged in SMRO, normally enemies inside the water field should take more damage, not while you are standing inside.)

image.png.6774502825675ba4beb04e7f82fea9f6.png Snow Flake Draft - Uses Ice Stones, 7x7 AoE around you, 60% chance to freeze enemies.

Endnote

Spoiler

You probably read this guide and now you're thinking: "Which Element should I use?"
The best element as I stated above is water.
The reason for this is that Dried Rafflesia card only boosts Freezing Spear and Watery Evasion boosts Freezing Spear even more.
Second best is Fire, because Wrath Rack boosts both Flaming Petals and Freezing Spear.
Wind is kind of a letdown, I don't know why, but the wind charms boost the Wind Blade damage only by half the amount of what Freezing Spear and Flaming Petals get.
I still use wind more often than fire, mainly to clear water type enemies.

If you have any more questions or notes to add, comment this / talk to Arun on Discord / pm Arun/Radian ingame.

Hmm, for weapon I could recommend bazerald or RWC Knife, but there isn't much else until 150. I don't recommend doing that class 1x on magic, rather play swirling petal for that, but I don't know the gear for that build.
