(Normal mode, but your damage is reduced by 90%, 185m shoulda been 1.85b???:o)

How the build works:
Just stack as much ghost element magic as you can! The magic drug for ghost magic is this.

13% Ghost BP [Lichtern Green]

Orb of Survival (7% all element, 3% vct)

+14 Nebula Robe of Spell (SC Spell2, NSpell1, Vit3) [Nightmare Amon Ra]

+14 Blue Crystal LT [Mutated WK, Regenschirm Scientist]

+15 Convertible Magic [Gioia]

+13 Hero Boot LT [Deathwitch]

Heroic Token ArchMage [Elvira]

Hero Insignia (Intelligence, Spell, int) [Elvira]

Costume Stones:

Arch Bishop Upper and Lower combo with AB Garment 2 (15% all size, 15% all element)
Magical Power Middle + Magic Power Stone Dual (9% all element)

+10 Magical Spell shadow weapon and shield (15 s.matk, spl +10)

+10 Full Temepst Set (6% all race, 100% pierce to all, 2% matk)

+10 True Gem Accessories (8% matk, 6% vct, 10% all element, 12% all size, -gemstones, +40% sp consumption)

 

CONS: Will not hit Neutral 4 Mobs, People hate ghost mages because Fire/Earth has 100% fire/earth debuff (Bloom/Violent Quake with Climax 4) which increases everyone's damage when they use fire/earth on the same mob you used it on, but! you can also use Climax 4 for destructive wind extra MATK (MORE DAMAGE), just have to ask for AP (which people don't like). Enjoy the build hope this shows that ghost mage is still alive.

The helmet battle.

+14 Survival LT Grade B vs +12 Grade A Bascojin

Non Proc on Normal - 6.5% favor of Survival LT
Non Proc on Boss - 20% favor of Survival LT
Bascojin Proc on Normal - 20% favor of Bascojin
Bascojin Proc on Boss - 4.94% favor of Bascojin

Conclusion:
If you can proc Bascojin LT consistently, it wins over Thanos/Survival LT. Prefer to use survival LT due to it providing acd, and more consistent dps. (just my opinion)

Thanos helm - not the best but really cheap, only grade C
Survival LT - best on bosses with fixed damage, not relying on proc. Has acd good for overall performance
Bascojin - best in terms of damage for any builds that does not use headgear/headgear+weapon combo to stack skill% (ex: thanatos helm+staff for CR, circlets for CL, etc)

How to start as an Arch Mage?
This guide is to provide you some insight, this is not a step by step guide.

Suggested upgrade sequence (This sequence is just my opinion, not an absolute guide)
use old weapon+shield (welding+mad bunny or pks) -> from BASE SET (if you can start with orb LT+convertible, it is adviseable to not waste money on Fallen Manteau+Vicious mind aura)

1st Survivor LT Orb+Convertible Magic

2nd Grade C Helmet Thanatos is really cheap (minimal difference compared to Survivor LT and bascojin LT usage, it also has fct) **VERY CHEAP**

3rd Nebula, Grade to A if possible +11 is enough OR if you are using solid weapons (for crimson arrow build, focus on new weapon first instead, then make nebula after) because if you are going to aim for an LT weapon, you will deprive yourself from the celine combo (dress+accs) which is still useful if you do not have the nebula.

4th Grade A +14 weapon LT(w/ heroic token) or Hero Boot LT+Hero Insignia

 

 

Notes:
-Weapon upgrade is big, but I set it to last because of future patches, we may be able to get better ones while you are working on your 1st to 3rd. Nebula is here to stay for the long run.
-This is just a rough estimation, there is no fixed guide. The suggestions are based on what you might have and how the market looks right now.

 

Questions:
why not make another class instead of an archmage? 

-Arch Mage specializes in utility, drain life, big aoe, comet debuff and long range (as long as ranger) this can easily carry you through normal instances alone (Solo) the more you invest on a mage the more it can do for you.

 

Is Arch Mage the best dps?

-No it is not the best, it is at the top 6 category ranking 5th (only my opinion), rankings are in the order (SX>SE>Ranger>AM>DK>Sura) but it really varies in a fight, if you are in the end game and you have all the mvps, there are races where in physical classes cannot fully have 100% dmg boost (racial cards on armor and shoes), and mages have it and element advantage as well. Over all Arch Mage is considered a must in a party due to the debuff it can provide the team.

 

How do I define class dps roles in a group setting in purgatory? (followed up from the previous question)
-SX (Dark claw) good dps, good debuff

-DK (no buff for team/debuff to enemy), selfish dps, good frontliner, still needed for faster clearing in a 12/12 party

-Ranger (no buff for team(windwalk spam)/debuff to enemy), selfish dps, still needed for faster clearing in a 12/12 party

-Arch Mage (no buff for the team/best debuff in game (100% up time), has white imprison to survive earthquake mechanics, durable due to drain life, party will always look for one)

-Sura (no buff for the team/no debuff to enemy, selfish dps, good frontliner very durable (same class as DK), still needed for faster clearing in a 12/12 party

(other dps are not mentioned here, not because they are bad, but the purpose of this post is to give an overview (with my opinions alone) on how I see the setup.

 

Why Ghost mage vs Fire mage?

-There are a lot of mobs that you cannot hit on occasions due to it being fire, ghost mage can hit everything except lvl 4 Netural, making hell mode runs a breeze. On team fights like purgatory fire Crimson arrow is ideal because you can debuf the enemy with bloom/violent quake (100% fire boost or 100% earth boost). But as a ghost mage, you can do the same, you just need to request for AP for climax while Crimson arrow mage does not.
